The names of the actual files in the instructions below may not match the version of the Extension Library you are downloading. However, the steps to install the Extension Library are the same for all versions.
The releases of the XPages Extension Library are distributed/downloaded in a compressed zip file. This zip file contains other zip files to install the Extension Library on a Domino server or a Designer client or the Notes client (to support XPiNC applications).

At this stage, if you were to attempt to preview an XPage which uses extension library components you would get an "Unexpected runtime error". For example in the image below the exception states that the library com.ibm.xsp.extlibx.library, required by the application cannot be found. Q1: Can I import the SHA-2 cert on a Domino 9.x server and then use that keyring on a Domino 8.5.x server?No. Domino 8.5.x lacks the cryptographic infrastructure for SHA-2. This means if you import the cert using 9.x and the Interim Fix and and KYRTool described above, you can use that keyring on a Domino 9.0 or above server, but not on a Domino server pre-Domino 9.0.
This How To focuses on the second option, specifically abstracting the Platform from the ODBC connection details by creating a Linked Server in MS SQL Server (an alternative here would be to perform the ODBC work inside an extension). I've researched a number of instructions available on the web and I've tested the steps to created a linked server but none of tutorials we I found seemed explain well enough what you need to do. Below you can find the steps I've learned through these experiments. I've actually tested them from start to finish in clean environment to make sure they worked just fine.
One more thing... For the OutSystems applications to be able to access the data of the linked server in runtime you need to change the permissions of the OSRuntime database user. This user is the one used to access data by the running applications.

The Lotus Domino connector uses the Lotus Notes client to communicate with Lotus Domino Server. IBM Lotus Notes client and Domino servers communicate using Notes Remote Procedure Call (NRPC) where NRPC should use TCP/IP. The default port number is 1352, but can be changed by the Domino administrator.
On the features page, install only the required Lotus Notes features and Client Single Logon. Single Logon is required for the connector to be able to log on to the Domino server.
